Planète Enfants & Développement (PE&D) was the first french NGO to establish in Cambodia after the Khmer genocide in 1984. Its expertise is recognized by the Cambodia Ministry of Health, Labor and Education.
The association helps municipalities to renovate and built nursery schools to provide access to good quality education for all children aged 3 to 6. Once the schools are developed and certified, the operating costs are borne by the local and national authorities.
The support of rural municipalities by the association allows these schools to obtain certification which covers:
- the construction or renovation of schools, respecting certain standards. A one-year follow-up is planned to follow the autonomy and proper functioning of the schools.
- the training of municipal councils with the establishment of a management committee for each school and the organization of village forums bringing together parents and officials.
- improvement of the teacher’s professionalism through a training program and the creation of a ressource platform. At the end of the certified training program, the teachers are given a new status by the authorities and their salary paid by the local and national authorities is significantly higher.
Thanks to the financial support of FAAU, a school will be built in a village in the south of the country for children (girls and boys)coming from the nearby town.
